Self-taught, John started experimenting with guitar as a teenager to “have something to sing along to.” Over 2 decades of playing later, he’s organically developed a style all his own. Spending 6 years as the vocalist for a metal band infused a heaviness that often permeates his writing and sets a satisfying contrast to his quieter and softer songs.

Influences range from Iron & Wine, Tool, The Shins, Elliott Smith, Radiohead, and a constantly rotating cast of acts from genres as diverse as folk and prog metal, creating a unique musical perspective expressed through an acoustic guitar and a voice.

John’s songwriting inspiration has come from nature, found family, canine companionship, and questions about our place in an ever-shifting social and ecological landscape.

His writing and performing aims to connect with others on an emotional level, to share in experiences of joy, loss, fear, and wonder.
